TRAVEL AND IMMIGRATION RESTRICTIONS
Several countries have imposed travel and immigration restrictions due to COVID-19. All customers are required to check relevant travel advisories to and from the countries to which they are traveling. This is a dynamic situation and it is the responsibility of the customer to ensure there are no entry restrictions at their travel destination. Always check travel restrictions for each part of your trip; this includes layovers for connecting flights, as well as entry requirements for your return back to the U.S.  Please note that the information provided in this addendum is based on the time of print and a country’s requirements can change rapidly at any time. It is the responsibility of the traveler to check all updates and obtain all necessary documents and tests prior to departure, as well as entry back into the U.S. Affordable World is not responsible if you are denied entrance for any reason in any country, even if you hold a valid passport and entry visa. Non U.S Passport holders - please check with your local embassy or consulate for detailed visa and travel document/entry requirements.
 

DOCUMENTATION

  1. Maldives Immigration Health Declaration Form:
In accordance with health requirements all travellers travelling to and from Maldives are required to submit a self-declarative health declaration within 24 hours prior to their departure to Maldives. This applies to all vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers. Please follow the provided link for more details. https://imuga.immigration.gov.mv/ethd
  1. PCR Tests:
  • Prior to departure (U.S to Maldives): Effective from 3rd May 2021, all inbound travelers are obliged to produce a PCR negative result of a sample taken within 96 hours prior to their departure to the Maldives, even if vaccinated. However, children below one year are exempt from submitting the PCR negative test result. You will be required to show your PCR test results upon check-in at the departure airport as well as at the Adaaran Hudhuranfushi resort.
  • Passengers booked at Adaaran Select Hudhuranfushi (Groupon Option 1): Prior to check-out: A PCR test is required prior to check-out from the resort. A PCR test may be purchased directly from Hudhuranfushi resort at the cost of $75 per person. Please check with the resort staff upon arrival for assistance with arranging a PCR test prior to check-out.
  • Passengers booked at Adaaran Select Hudhuranfushi & Adaaran Prestige Vadoo (Groupon Option 2): Prior to check-out: A PCR test is required prior to check-out from each resort at a total cost of $125. PCR tests may be purchased directly from Hudhuranfushi resort at the cost of $50 per person and from Vadoo resort at the cost of $75 per person. Please check with the Hudhuranfushi and Vadoo resort staff upon arrival for assistance with arranging a PCR test prior to check-out.
  1. Vaccination Cards: It is advised that vaccinated clients bring their COVID-19 vaccination card in the event it is required during travel. We strongly suggest keeping your vaccination card in a safe and secure place while traveling. In addition we recommend keeping a digital copy of your vaccination card.

TRAVEL BETWEEN ISLANDS

The Adaaran resorts will arrange transfer vessels for movement from and to Velena International Airport (MLE). It is mandatory that the guests use this channel for any and all transfers. For guests booked to stay at the Hudhuranfushi & Vadoo, Adaaran resorts will assist in arranging your transfer from Hudhuranfushi to Vadoo resort. A PCR test will be required prior to check-out of Hudhuranfushi (PCR rates and details listed above).

Entry back to the US

  • Effective January 26, 2021, the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will require all air passengers entering the United States (including U.S. citizens and Legal Permanent Residents) to present a negative COVID-19 test, taken within three calendar days of departure or proof of recovery from the virus within the last 90 days​. Airlines must confirm the negative test result or proof of recovery for all passengers two years of age and over prior to boarding. ​Airlines must deny boarding of passengers who do not provide documentation of a negative test or recovery.

ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES - ADDITIONAL INFORMATION (MALDIVES)

  • All guests will be met by a resort representative at the Adaaran resort airport counter.
  • All guests will be subjected to temperature check prior to boarding the speedboat transfer.
  • If a guest shows a temperature above 37.6 C, he/she will be directed to local healthcare experts and upon confirmation of safety, will be taken/transported to the designated resort. In the case of a guest receiving positive PCR results, he/she will be transferred to a Government isolation/quarantine unit. Any unused tour feature either on air transportation or for land arrangements including but not limited to optional excursions/tours/meals, hotel accommodations and upgrades are non-refundable, non-transferable, or exchangeable.
  • All transfer vessels will be disinfected following local healthcare guidelines. Your transport provider will be equipped with a mask and gloves and will undergo regular temperature monitoring.
  • Please note that masks and sanitizing is compulsory before boarding the transfer vessel.
  • Your luggage will be handled by trained staff with gloves and will be disinfected with spray prior to sending to your accommodation.
  • The resorts undertake PCR screening prior to departure. This will be conducted by the in-house doctor at the resort clinic.

DOCUMENTATION  
  1. Maldives Immigration Traveler Health Declaration Form (THD): 
In accordance with health requirements, all individuals travelling to and from Maldives are required to submit a self-declarative health declaration within 24 hours prior to their departure to Maldives. This applies to all vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers. You may submit the form electronically via https://imuga.immigration.gov.mv/ethd 
  1. PCR Tests:
  • Prior to departure (U.S to Maldives): Effective from May 03, 2021, all inbound travelers are required to present a negative PCR result of a sample taken within 96 hours prior to their departure to the Maldives, even if vaccinated. However, children below one year are exempt from submitting the PCR negative test result. All tourists are required to present a negative PCR certificate upon arrival at the airport.  
  • Prior to returning to the U.S (Maldives to U.S): Effective January 26, 2021, all airline passengers to the United States ages two year and older must provide a negative Covid-19 viral PCR test taken three calendar days of travel. PCR tests may be purchased directly from Banyan Tree Resorts at the cost of $95 per person. This cost is applicable to both adults and children.  PCR tests should be carried out two days (48 hours) prior to departure date. PCR test appointments should be made with the Resort Hosts upon check-in.  Payment to be done prior to the test being conducted. The test will be conducted by the resort’s resident Doctor and samples taken at the resort will be sealed according to the Health Protection Agency’s standards and securely transported to the hospital to obtain results.  The hospital will email the reports to the resorts and will be delivered to the guest within the next 24 hours.  If the PCR test results are positive, the Resort will brief the Guest on the next procedure following the Health Protection Agency's recommendation.  The Resort reserves the right to adjust the prices without prior notice. Alternatively, travelers to the United States may provide documentation from a licensed health care provider of having recovered from Covid-19 in the 90 days preceding travel.  
  1. For guests booked to stay at the Angsana Ihuru & Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru, Banyan Tree Resorts will assist in arranging your transfer from Angsana Ihuru to Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru.  A PCR test will be required prior to check-out of Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru (PCR rates and details listed in above PCR section).
Entry back to the US

ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES - ADDITIONAL INFORMATION (MALDIVES)
  • Upon arrival, a resort airport representative will be waiting outside the arrival terminal holding a ‘Banyan Tree/Angsana’ sign.  If you do not see the representative, please proceed to the Banyan Tree/Angsana Resort counter located in Zone A, Counter 7 in the arrivals hall. 
  • The Maldives’ government is taking active steps to prevent further spreading, including travel restrictions, involuntary isolation and mandatory quarantine.  Travelers who test positive are routinely separated from their travel companions and forced to isolate at their expense.  Anyone who is exposed to someone with a positive test for Covid-19 is required to quarantine for 14 days at their expense.

  • All guests will be met by a resort representative at the Banyan/Angsana resort airport counter.
  • Temperature checks and screening measures will be carried out at the first point of entry for tourists and special attention will be paid to individuals exhibiting Covid-19 symptoms including, but not limited to, cough, runny nose or shortness of breath. 
  • Those exhibiting Covid-19 symptoms on arrival must undergo a PCR test. If one member of a group traveling together displays symptoms, all members of the group shall be tested. Tourists shall bear the cost of the PCR test conducted on symptomatic tourists.
  • If any members of the travel party test positive, the person who tests positive will be placed in isolation for 14 days at their expense and the rest of the family will be placed in quarantine for 14 days at their expense. 
  • Any unused tour feature either on air transportation or for land arrangements including but not limited to: optional excursions, room upgrades, package upgrades, hotel accommodations and meals are non-refundable, non-transferable or exchangeable.

  • Temperature checks to be performed at check-in and before use of facilities. 
  • Distancing measures in place - at the lobby, restaurant, bar, etc. - where seating is spaced out according to safe distancing requirements. 
  • Maximum quota for facilities established in line with distancing requirements - please remember to pre-book reservations.
  • Please note that masks and sanitizing is compulsory before boarding the transfer vessel.
  • Non-compliance with host country rules regarding social distancing, movement restrictions or other Covid-19 prevention measures may result in fines or arrests. 
  • Due to travel restrictions, the U.S Embassy in Colombo, Sri Lanka is extremely limited in providing services to American citizens in Maldives.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

PREPARING FOR YOUR TRIP
As you prepare to embark on your upcoming Affordable World journey, please log on to your My Affordable account and click on your trip confirmation ID to review the most up to date trip details including hotel information, flight schedules, and ticket number(s).   Please make sure you have all travel documents*, passports, and necessary visas ready before you depart for your trip. 

CHECKING IN AT THE AIRPORT
Be sure to bring your passport and a copy of your trip confirmation page as you will need to present them when checking in at the airport*.  Please be advised not all airlines assign seats in advance.  Some airlines assign seats at the airport during check-in.  We recommend all travelers arrive at the airport at least 3 hours prior to the flight departure time.  You will receive boarding passes at the airline counter when you check in for your flight.

UPON ARRIVAL IN MALE
Please go through Customs and Immigrations on your own.  After you pick up your luggage, exit the baggage claim area and proceed to the designated resort counter.  Please inform their representatives of your name(s) and they will confirm your speedboat transfer details.

Speedboat Transfers upon Arrival
All guests are required to report to their respective resort counter to confirm their speedboat transfer details. All transfers are provided on a combined basis with other resort guests arriving from the same flight and/or flights landing in close proximity of the time.  The speedboat from MLE airport to the resorts is approximately 30 minutes (time will vary based on local weather conditions that day).  Please note, life vests for infants under the age of 2 will not be available for the transfers or on the islands; guests are responsible for bringing their own infant life vests.

Speedboat Transfers Out
The resort will provide a speedboat transfer to MLE airport on the day of your return flight.  All transfers are provided on a combined basis with other guests departing on the same flight and/or flights departing in close proximity of the time.  Exact timing for all guests will be informed by the hotel staff approximately 1 day prior to the return flight departure date*.

TRAVEL DOCUMENTS*
  • Passports must be valid for at least 6 months from the return date of your trip and have at least 1 blank page 
  • U.S Passport holders – Entry Visas are required to travel to Maldives. A visitor visa is available at the airport upon arrival, for stays up to 30 days.

BAGGAGE
Baggage allowance for international flights varies by airlines and is subject to change at any time.  For up-to-date baggage allowance restrictions, please check with the appropriate airline for their latest regulations.  Additional baggage charges may apply. 
Important Luggage Info & Tips
  • Please keep in mind that you will be responsible for handling your own luggage throughout the trip
  • Baggage is the sole responsibility of the traveller.  We recommend using a TSA approved luggage lock and an Affordable World luggage tag (enclosed) showing the name and contact information of the owner. Baggage without a lock may be refused for transport 
  • When packing, please keep in mind that there is limited room on the speedboat transfer from MLE airport to the resort
  • DO NOT pack medicine, valuables, and other personal necessities in checked luggage. Keep these items in your carry-on bag
  • Consider packing a change of clothing and toiletry in your carry-on bag to avoid inconvenience caused by delays or lost luggage.
  • Power bank chargers over 20,000 mAh are restricted  from carry on and check in luggage
  • Power bank  mAh capacity must be clearly labelled by manufacturer on the charger
  • Please visit www.tsa.gov for USA carry on restrictions
  • No porter service will be provided throughout the tour.  During the tour please keep an eye on your personal belongings and valuables at all times. Be aware of your surroundings when going out on your own.  

MALDIVES CUSTOMS PROCEDURES
When transiting Maldives, travelers should ensure their luggage does not contain prohibited or restricted items, which include weapons, ammunition, alcohol, pornography, and religious material offensive to Islam, among other items.  In some places, it is illegal to take pictures of certain buildings. 

CURRENCY
The currency of the Maldives is called the Rufiyah (MVR).   As of May 2021, the exchange rate is $1 U.S dollar to 15.391 MVR.  We suggest you bring a combination of cash and credit cards for your trip. Most hotels and restaurants will accept major credit cards as well as U.S dollars. 

TIPPING
Please note gratuities are not included in your tour cost.  They are customary and their purpose is to encourage and reward quality service.  Our specialists greatly appreciate any tips you would like to give them.

HEALTH & MEDICAL MATTERS
Medical and vaccination requirements vary between countries and it is important you check with your family doctor or a qualified medical professional for the most up to date travel health information for the region you are visiting.*  Due to the length of the trip, it is strongly advised you consult your doctor for existing medical/dental conditions before departure. It is advised to pack any prescription medicine in your carry on hand luggage. Please make sure prescription medicine is fully labelled. It may also be useful to bring aspirin, over-the-counter medicine for the flu, indigestion, motion sickness, etc. In case of illness during the trip, please immediately notify your tour guide for assistance.  Please note, as of January 2019, vaccinations for yellow fever are required if arriving from an infected area.

ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENT
Maldives’ electrical system operates at 220/240 volts, so a converter is needed to operate a normal 110-volt American appliance.  Electrical appliances will also require an adapter that can change the shape of the plug prongs.   It is recommended travelers bring their own voltage converter and adapter

The time difference between major cities in North America and Maldives are as below:

SHOPPING
Affordable World does not assume responsibility for any items purchased at shops while on tour.  You are never required to purchase any items while on tour and thus must be responsible for your own purchases.  Any after sales correspondence must be between the passenger and the shop in question.

  • Dining Experience 
    • Vadoo’s all inclusive dine around meal offering is served at the main restaurant during the following operational hours:
      • A La Carte Breakfast: Served around the clock (24 hours)
      • Set Menu Lunch:  12:30 - 2:30 pm
      • Set Menu Dinner: 7:30 – 9:30 pm
    • The resort offers guests a set menu option for dinner at their Japanese restaurant as an alternative to dinner at the main restaurant (subject to prior reservation).
    • A snack menu option for lunch at the main bar is offered as an alternative to lunch at the main restaurant.
    • High tea, cookies and savouries will be served, with the option of in-villa service at 5 pm.

Angsana Ihuru Dine Package 
  • Dining Experience - Exclusively designed by Angsana Ihuru to embrace all the elements of a gastronomic holiday experience in the Maldives. This package includes:
    • Breakfast, lunch and dinner served at the main restaurant, Riveli.  Enjoy a combination of a la carte menus or sumptuous buffet along with live cooking stations, BBQ & Grill.
    • Afternoon Tea/Coffee, where you can enjoy a selection of handmade goodies & snacks from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm daily.
    • 20% discount on Destination Dining experiences.
  • Beverages
    • Free flow of alcoholic beverages including a selection of standard wines, beers, cocktails & house pour international branded spirits, non-alcoholic beverages including a selection of mocktails, soft drinks, sparkling/still mineral water and a selection of tea/coffee at the main restaurant and bar.  Available daily from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm.
    • Minibar:
      • In-villa minibar soft drinks and snacks will be replenished daily.

Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru 
  • Dining Experience - Your standard accommodation is half-board, which includes daily breakfast and dinner either at the Banyan’s Ilaafathi or Angsana’s Riveli restaurant. Bottled water and selection of coffee/tea included. 


CLIMATE & CLOTHING
  • The Maldives Islands enjoy a delightful climate, sunny and pleasant for the majority of the year
  • Although rainfall is not very frequent, scattered showers can be expected during certain times of the year
  • Inclement weather conditions seldom occur in the Maldives and are very short-lived
  • Water shoes are highly recommended as there is a lot of coral in the oceans and lagoons; the resort’s gift shop has water shoes available for purchase but please keep in mind sizes are limited
  • Recommended items to bring:
    • Comfortable walking shoes and sandals are essential
    • Clothes should be light and loose; natural fibres or blends are best
    • Lightweight loungewear (linens, cottons, etc.) 
    • Swimsuit
    • Sunglasses and light hats are highly recommended
    • Water shoes (there’s a lot of coral in the oceans/lagoons; water shoes are also available for purchase in the gift shop however sizing is limited)
    • Snorkel gear (there’s a lot of opportunities to snorkel around the resort’s beaches and in the lagoons by the ocean villas); snorkel gear is also available for rent or purchase at the resort
    • Sunscreen (also available for purchase at the gift store)
