Xiu Shui Market, or “Silk Street”, has become Beijing’s one stop shopping paradise. Newly reopened in 2005, the gleaming seven-story building replaced the infamous outdoor Xiu Shui market. The 35,000 square-meter complex now houses 1700 retail vendors who continue to sell a variety of goods including fashion apparel, handbags, accessories, and silk fabrics. The new Silk Street offers traditional Chinese handicrafts, calligraphy, antiques, home wares, electronics, and fine jewelry. Whether in the market for a tailor-made silk suit or just browsing for souvenirs to take home, you are bound to find something that catches your eye.
