Fly to Lima, arriving in Peru in the late evening or early morning. Meet your guide and after a transfer to your hotel, enjoy time to rest and look forward to the Peru tours ahead. Lima is a thriving metropolis undergoing exciting change yet also steeped in history, making it one of the must-see places in Peru. Your sightseeing starts with a scenic tour of its UNESCO World Heritage historical center. See the main square of the Plaza de Armas—also called Plaza Mayor—bordered by the Presidential Palace, Cathedral and other imposing buildings. Learn how it was the foundation of the “City of Kings” in 1535 before visiting St. Francis' Church, an elegant baroque monastery-church famous for its library and catacombs lined with human bones. After returning to Miraflores, stop at Love Park, which celebrates love and centers on a huge kissing statue. Couples regard a visit to the park as one of the essential things to do in Lima, Peru for its fabulous sea views and mosaic-covered sculptures. This evening is at your leisure, giving you the opportunity to discover the city’s trendy culinary scene or shop for souvenirs.

Transfer to Lima Airport for your short flight to Cusco. On arrival, meet our tour representative and travel to your Sacred Valley hotel. Absorb the scenery on route to Pisac and visit the Inkariy Museum. Peru tourist attractions don’t come more interesting than this museum, which charts the country’s ancient civilisations from the Caral to the Inca. Depart for Ollanta where a Voyager Inca Rail train transports you to Aguas Calientes near Machu Picchu. From your seat, admire the passing Andean landscapes of snow-tipped peaks, winding rivers and rainforest before disembarking for a 25-minute coach trip to Machu Picchu. Out of all the places to visit in Peru, this mountaintop “Lost City of the Incas” is the jewel. Likely built in the 1450s by Inca emperor Pachacuti, the mist-shrouded citadel was abandoned within a century and covered by jungle. Take a guided tour of the ruins set against their spectacular backdrop, exploring highlights including the Main Square, Royal Quarters and Burial Grounds as you hear their history. After returning to Aguas Calientes, reboard the Voyager Inca train to Ollanta and transfer to your hotel in Cusco, the Incas’ former capital. Relax this morning before a guided afternoon walking tour of Cusco—an interesting fusion of ancient and colonial architecture that’s home to many Peru famous landmarks and several of the attractions that would feature in any Peru beautiful places list. Explore the Santo Domingo Convent, a 16th-century complex constructed atop the Coricancha Temple—a revered Inca sun temple whose foundations are still visible. Hear how Coricancha was reputedly coated in gold leaf and then visit colonial-era Cusco Cathedral. Admire its stunning gold decorations and frescoes and view its home—Cusco’s Main Square—before returning to your hotel for an evening free.

Today is yours to spend how you wish. Perhaps continue your explorations of Cusco’s sights independently or head out to shop at the city’s markets. Alternatively, make the most of your Peru trip on a full-day optional tour to Chinchero, Maras, Moray, Ollantaytambo and Pisac Market—some of the most popular Peru attractions for visitors. After seeing Chinchero, a typical high-altitude Andean town with mythical status as the birthplace of rainbows, you’ll visit Maras’ Inca salt pools and Moray’s circular terraces, believed to have been used by the Incas for crop-growing experiments. Finally, view Ollantaytambo’s ruins before scouring Pisac market for colorful alpaca-wool clothes, ceramics and other souvenirs.
*Important note: Flight schedules may require you to fly back to Lima later today rather than stay overnight in Cusco. If this is the case, a short domestic flight will take you to the Peruvian capital where you will stay at the Holiday Inn Lima Airport hotel before joining the next day’s scheduled return flight to the US. Transfers to/from the airport and hotel will be by shared airport shuttle.

Your affordable travel experience to Peru comes to an end today. Transfer to Cusco airport and fly to Lima to catch your homeward flight. Otherwise, the hotel standard check-out time will be at 10 am today.
